Nominated for a New British Music Theatre award in 2016 for her work in new opera, Anna has become known as a creator of innovative, site-specific, music theatre events.
As a director, recent work includes Dust Child (English Touring Opera), Snappy Operas (Mahogany Opera Group), Trident Moon (Finborough Theatre) and Il Parnaso Confuso (Wilton's Music Hall). As Artistic Director of workshOPERA, her work includes Seven Velvet Suits (BasicSpace Festival), East o' the Sun, West o' the Moon (Tete a Tete Festival), critically-acclaimed Boys of Paradise (Tete a Tete/EGG LDN) and most recently, Sound Tracks (Guildhall School of Music and Drama/ London Transport Museum). Currently, she is creating Smithfield Symphony (Culture Mile/Barbican/City of London) and outdoor opera adventure, Scraww! (Trebah Amphitheatre, Cornwall). Anna has worked as an assistant director for companies including Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, English National Opera and London Symphony Orchestra alongside directors and conductors such as Annabel Arden, Kasper Holten and Sir Simon Rattle.
Anna originally studied Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, winning the Edmund Rubbra Prize in 2015. She is a member of Emmy-nominated vocal ensemble, Mediaeval Baebes, and returns to composing this November as Musical Director and composer on Kent’s county-wide, site-specific First World War project, Return of the Unknown (Marlowe Theatre/ Dover Marine Station).
Anna wants to make music theatre and opera which reaches as broader audience as possible and loves the fact that Pop Up Opera combines both classic opera repertoire with challenging, inspiring and exciting performance spaces.
