James Henshaw is currently studying Opera at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a repetiteur and as an assistant conductor fellow. He recently graduated with a degree in Music from Clare College, Cambridge where he was a Choral Scholar in Clare Choir and now continues to sing for the Chapel Royal. As a choir director he has worked with the singer-akadamie in Zurich and he is very much looking forward to starting his prospective work as Associate Conductor of Ashtead Choral Society, where he will lead a year of exciting programs including Brahms requiem with professional soloist Claire Rutter. James currently studies conducting with Toby Purser, principle conductor of the Orion orchestra and Sian Edwards, whilst setting up his own orchestra based in Notting Hill.
He has been Music Director of Pop-Up Opera for a year now and is very much looking forward to an exciting future with this company.
"Orchestra? Musical director? Conductor? All one man. Looking about 19, James Henshaw on the electric piano was poised on a merry cusp between cinema accompanist and opera-house maestro"
The Times, L'elisir d'amore
"To accompany an entire opera on just a keyboard without once making the audience miss a full orchestra is impressive, to do so without a page-turner is a feat: give that man a coconut."
The Public Reviews, L'elisir d'amore
