Penelope completed her Masters in Music Performance and Education at Sheffield University, and was then awarded the Lillian Baylis scholarship to undertake further opera performance studies with English National Opera. She then continued her training at the Opera School, Morley College (2008 – 2010) where she performed numerous roles; Mercedes (Carmen), Ma?enka (Bartered Bride), First Lady (Magic Flute), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Lizette (La Rondine), Marzelline (Fidelio). In 2012, Penelope toured with Pop Up Opera’s hugely successful production of L’elisir d’amore (Gianetta) and her recent international engagements include performances with Hand Made Opera; Fiordilligi (Cosi Fan Tutte); Rita (Rita), and Opera Rustica’s international recital series. Her prizes include Julian Payne Scholarship (Chelmsford Festival), David Clover Prize for English Song (Sheffield Arts) and finalist at the Patricia Routledge Competition (AESS) 2011.
Penelope’s solo oratorio performances include; Vivaldi Gloria, Purcell Fairy Queen, Bach St John Passion, Handel Messiah, Pergolesi Stabat Mater; Schubert Mass in E flat, and Haydn Seasons and Creation. Her other recital engagements have been in association with Oxford and Cambridge Music Club, Saffron Walden Arts Trust, Maldon Choral Society, Golalming Choral Society, Debden Music Association and London Conducting Masterclasses. In the coming months, Penelope will be travelling to Italy for a series of masterclasses with Colin Baldy and has been invited to perform at the Maldon Music Festival. Penelope also works as a freelance vocal animateur in and around the London area. She is Musical Director of two choirs and is involved with education projects in association with Spitalfields Festival Education and English National Opera Baylis with whom she recorded a new composition based on the fairytale of Hänsel and Gretal.
