Venue Information

Venue Description:
For about three hundred years this building was in daily use as the Refectory, or dining room, of the Cistercian Monks living at the Abbey. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in AD 1538, the monastic buildings remained empty and many were pulled down and the stone used to build forts along the southern shore such as Calshot Castle, about 8 miles away. As the Refectory was one of the few buildings remaining the parishioners were granted its use by the Lord of the Manor and so it has remained the Parish Church of Beaulieu ever since.
