Spirella Ballroom, Letchworth Garden City

An exciting new venue for Pop-up Opera to tour to in Summer 2016, the magnificent Spirella Ballroom, steeped in local history within the Edwardian Spirella corset factory, this venue lends itself to a plot-line where the characters get themselves rather tied in knots!

We are delighted to be programmed as part of the Letchworth Festival, by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation; a festival designed to bring the local community together to celebrate Life in Letchworth.

Join us on Saturday 18th June, 7.30pm

Tickets are priced at £20 (£15 concessions) and are available online here.

Running Time:
2 hours 15 mins (includes 20-min interval)

"Nothing quite compares with Pop-up in the sheer exuberance of their productions. And this Barber of Seville may be the best thing they have yet done."

Venue Information

Venue Description:
Created for the famous Spirella corset company, the ‘factory of beauty’ offered its employees facilities such as baths, showers, gymnastics classes, a library, free eye tests and bicycle repairs way ahead of their time.

Built in three stages between 1912 and 1920, this beautiful building, now Grade II* listed, offers a picturesque stop in the Garden City; an excellent example of Arts and Crafts architecture, with immaculately landscaped gardens.

The Spirella Building was lovingly restored in 1996 from derelict condition into a vibrant business centre, leaving at the heart if it the original magnificent Ballroom, with high arched ceilings, an impressive chandelier and ornate domed roof windows.
